Did you know that the color of your semen could be indicative of your fertility, or, in some cases, your infertility? Semen color, texture, and even smell can provide a lot of information about your fertility and health.

Semen color

Semen is considered normal when it is white or a light gray color. Semen that does not fall in this range of color may indicate a medical condition. Unusual colors like yellow or green indicate that you may have a prostate infection, and should speak with your medical provider as soon as possible to determine if an infection is present and if antibiotics are needed. Yellow semen may also indicate urine in the semen. This can be an issue that requires attention from a fertility specialist, as it may indicate infertility. Pink or reddish-brown semen suggests that you may have some bleeding from or inflammation of your prostate. Most doctors will advise consulting with your provider in order to determine if a change in semen coloration requires testing or treatment.

Semen texture/consistency

The texture and consistency of semen is also important. Typically, semen is thick immediately after ejaculation and thins over time. If you find that your semen has changed to a runny or overly sticky texture, then a medical condition may be present.

When to speak with a physician

Often, a change in semen is temporary and will resolve itself on its own after a short period of time. However, a change in semen could indicate a medical condition. If changes in your semen last for more than one week, or if these changes are accompanied by sexual dysfunction, blood in urine, pain, itching, or fever, then it’s best to contact your provider. If your doctor determines that a medical issue is present that affects your fertility, Dr. Bastuba of the Male Fertility & Sexual Medicine Specialists (MFS) can provide a semen analysis in order to determine the best course of treatment for your situation. Contact MFS today with any questions or concerns you may have regarding a semen analysis.

Is Hershey's dark chocolate real?

Special Dark is similar to a standard Hershey bar, but is made with a dark (or semi-sweet) variety of chocolate, and contains a higher percentage (45%) of cocoa solids, chocolate liquor and cocoa butter than milk chocolate.

Dark chocolate bar

Hershey's Special Dark is a chocolate bar manufactured by The Hershey Company.

History [ edit ]

In 1894, before the introduction of the milk chocolate Hershey bar in 1900, the Hershey Chocolate Company manufactured and marketed "vanilla sweet chocolate" a semi-sweet chocolate. [1] This bar has been described as the "first" American candy bar. [2] The company continued to provide semi-sweet chocolate products and in the 1930s a Not-So-Sweet bar [3] and in 1939, added the Bitter-Sweet bar to Hershey's Miniatures. [4] The Hershey's Semi-Sweet bar was being sold in the market in the 1960s. [5]

Miniatures [ edit ]

Hershey's Special Dark is a component of the traditional Hershey's Miniatures assortment first sold in 1939, when the Special Dark was called Bitter-Sweet.[6] In 2006, Hershey's began selling Hershey's Special Dark Miniatures, which included the plain Special Dark bar, along with dark bars with peanuts (similar to a Mr. Goodbar) and with crisped rice (similar to a Krackel).[citation needed]

Hershey's Extra Dark [ edit ]

Hershey's Extra Dark is a product very similar to the Special Dark. The three varieties are solid chocolate; chocolate with macadamia nuts and dried cranberries; and chocolate with cranberries, blueberries, pomegranate, and almonds. Hershey's marketing emphasizes the antioxidant qualities of these bars' ingredients. Additionally, Hershey's Extra Dark contains 60% cocoa solids, while Hershey's Special Dark contains 45% cocoa solids.[7]

Ingredients [ edit ]
