You may have heard about the benefits of biotin (otherwise known as vitamin B7) for your hair growth. And many people assume that vitamins and oils will do wonders for your beard.

In many cases, this is correct, especially if you have a vitamin deficiency already. However, many people overlook the importance of minerals for their facial hair. Zinc is a mineral that can help support your beard growth. Plus, it keeps you healthy in a lot of other ways. So what does zinc do for a beard?

Zinc for beard strength

Zinc helps to strengthen hair follicles, supporting natural growth of your beard. The mineral may also help with your scalp, skin, and fingernails. A lack of zinc in your diet can make it more difficult for your body to break down nutrients and proteins that aid in the production of beard hair. Zinc has also been linked to an increase in testosterone in men with an already deficient zinc intake. Testosterone is a vital hormone in many traditionally male characteristics, as well as muscle growth. A low testosterone level can make it difficult to grow a full beard. On the other hand, increasing the level of testosterone to a normal level can kick start or fast track beard growth. The recommended daily intake for zinc is 11mg, but studies show that 30mg helps to increase free testosterone in the body. However, unlike vitamin C or biotin, extra zinc in the body is not simply excreted through the urine.

Don’t have too much!

Zinc toxicity can start at 40mg per day, which can lead to nausea, headaches, abdominal cramps, and even vomiting and diarrhea. It is important to only supplement zinc if you are not getting enough from your diet. Zinc is a mineral found in many different foods. The main foods that are high in zinc include beef, chicken, oysters, crab, beans, nuts, and oatmeal. While zinc can be supplemented, the easiest way to increase zinc in your diet is to eat the right kinds of foods. Zinc deficiency is most common in people with gastrointestinal disorders and alcoholics, or in people who hold to a vegetarian or vegan diet. If you are someone who avoids these “high zinc” foods, you may want to look into supplementing your daily intake of zinc. Like most beard growth products, zinc supplements help to resolve a gap in nutrition. Zinc can do for a beard only that which isn’t already being done. Just like taking extra biotin will only help if there is already a deficiency in vitamin B7, taking extra zinc will only increase testosterone if you’re not getting enough zinc in your diet already. Furthermore, taking too much zinc can actually lead to adverse effects on your body like nausea, headaches, and diarrhea. However, If you find you have characteristics of low testosterone levels, or your diet cuts out foods like beef and chicken, it may be worth supplementing your daily intake of zinc. It will help raise testosterone, strengthen hair follicles, and keep your beard growing fast and strong.

What vitamins reverse grey hair?

It is purported that when Pantothenic Acid and folic acid are taken together it helps reverse graying by taking the hair back to its original color. Inositol, a substance found naturally in the human body, may encourage the growth and overall health of hair.

When men begin to show a slight graying at the temples which continues on to a full head of salt and pepper or completely gray hair adjectives such as distinguished, dignified, but still handsome are used to describe the look. On the other hand less flattering adjectives are often used to describe women with gray hair. Women with streaks of gray or predominantly gray hair are said to look older and aging. Although the concept of the gray haired crone is changing, women still prefer to fight the signs of age, especially gray hair with chemicals. Is there an alternative to dying or bleaching salt and pepper hair? Is it possible to keep hair the natural color with supplements, herbs or alternative methods? Take a look at the causes and what to try if you looked in the mirror and discovered pesky gray hairs hidden among colorful tresses. The Color of Hair

Hair color is produced by pigment cells called melanocytes within hair follicles.
