1. Drink lots of water.

Did you know that our body is mostly made up of water?

Over half of our body is made from water which means we need to keep it hydrated. Make sure you drink lots of water throughout the day, especially if you have been running around and playing!

2. Eat your five a day!

You must have heard of this one! You should always make sure to eat your five a day.

This should be made up of lots of fruit and vegetables.

You can even get it from drinks like smoothies, or maybe vegetables in your pasta sauce!

3. Have a balanced diet.

It’s important to have a balanced diet.

This means you should make sure to have something from every food group!

The different food groups are:

Carbohydrates: There are carbohydrates in bread, potatoes, pasta and rice.

Protein: You can get your protein from food such as beans, meat, eggs and fish.

Dairy: This can include milk, yoghurt and cheese!

Fruit and vegetables: Make sure to add lots of fruit and vegetables into your diet such as apples, grapes, carrots and broccoli! Fats and sugars: Make sure not to eat too many of these. They are foods such as biscuits, chocolate and butter.

4. Stay active!

Make sure you do lots of sports and stay active.

There are lots of things you can do including swimming, football or maybe even a bit of hula hooping! It’s important to stay active as it will keep you happy and healthy! Exercising can lower your risk of getting conditions such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes and will also help to prevent strokes. There is also a lot of evidence to suggest that it can improve your mental health and mood.

5. Make sure you get lots of sleep!

The length of time you should sleep changes depending on how old you are. The NHS recommend that 5 year olds should get around 11 hours sleep, whilst a 9 year old should have around 10 hours.

Make sure to avoid screens in your bedroom.

It also helps to do something relaxing before sleeping, such as reading a book or listening to some calm music. Sleeping helps your body to recover and will energise you for the day ahead!

6. Have a good posture.

It’s important to have good posture throughout the day.

Posture is the position of your body when you are sitting or standing. It’s very easy to slouch in a chair. If you are sat at a desk, make sure your feet touch the floor. Also, make sure you sit as far into the chair as you can. When going to school, make sure to put both straps of your backpack on your shoulders as this will help your posture too! Over time bad posture can cause you issues such as a bad back.

7. Brush your teeth twice a day.

It’s very important to brush your teeth twice a day to keep your teeth and mouth nice and healthy. You should make sure that you brush them for at least two minutes with fluoride toothpaste. Here’s a tip, once you have brushed your teeth, spit the toothpaste out but don’t rinse your mouth out with water after this as the fluoride won’t work as well.

Fluoride is a mineral that stops teeth from decaying!

8. Have some YOU time.

Sometimes it’s good to have some time to yourself.

After a busy day at school and working hard, it’s good to take some time to rest. You could listen to some music or even pick up your favourite book.

9. Smile and laugh.

It is so important to have fun!

Studies have shown that laughter can really benefit your health and mood.

So, if you’ve got any good jokes then now is the time crack them!

10. Spend time with your friends!

Spending time with your friends is always lots of fun.

Make sure you always make time to do this as you don’t want to be lonely. You can listen to each other’s problems – as a problem shared is a problem halved! Plus you can do all of the activities that make you happy like going to the cinema or bowling!
