ON THIS PAGE: You will find out more about body changes and other things that can signal a problem that may need medical care. Use the menu to see other pages. A symptom is something that only the person experiencing it can identify and describe, such as fatigue, nausea, or pain. A sign is something that other people can identify and measure, such as a fever, rash, or an elevated pulse. Together, signs and symptoms can help describe a medical problem. While most prostate cancer does not cause any symptoms at all, the symptoms and signs of prostate cancer may include:

Frequent urination

Weak or interrupted urine flow or the need to strain to empty the bladder

The urge to urinate frequently at night

Blood in the urine

New onset of erectile dysfunction

Pain or burning during urination, which is much less common

Discomfort or pain when sitting, caused by an enlarged prostate

Other noncancerous conditions of the prostate, such as BPH or an enlarged prostate, can cause similar symptoms. Or, the cause of a symptom or sign may be another medical condition that is also not related to cancer. Urinary symptoms also can be caused by an infection of the bladder or other conditions. If cancer has spread outside of the prostate gland, symptoms and signs may include:

Pain in the back, hips, thighs, shoulders, or other bones

Swelling or fluid buildup in the legs or feet

Unexplained weight loss

Fatigue

Change in bowel habits

If you are concerned about any changes you experience, please talk with your doctor. Your doctor will ask how long and how often you have been experiencing the symptom(s), in addition to other questions. This is to help figure out the cause of the problem, called a diagnosis. If cancer is diagnosed, relieving symptoms remains an important part of cancer care and treatment. This may be called "palliative care" or "supportive care." It is often started soon after diagnosis and continued throughout treatment. Be sure to talk with your health care team about the symptoms you experience, including any new symptoms or a change in symptoms. The next section in this guide is Diagnosis. It explains what tests may be needed to learn more about the cause of the symptoms. Use the menu to choose a different section to read in this guide.

Do bananas have zinc?

Bananas aren't the best zinc foods, but they'll help you sneak a small amount into your diet. Large bananas that are about 8 to 9 inches long and weigh around 135 grams have . 20 milligrams of zinc. A small 6- to 7-inch banana weighing about 100 grams offers .

Zinc is a powerful trace mineral you need in very small amounts each day. Getting adequate zinc keeps your immune system functioning optimally, among many other benefits. Meat, seafood and dairy tend to have the highest amounts of zinc, but you will get a small amount from bananas as well. Amount in Bananas Bananas aren't the best zinc foods, but they'll help you sneak a small amount into your diet. Large bananas that are about 8 to 9 inches long and weigh around 135 grams have .20 milligrams of zinc. A small 6- to 7-inch banana weighing about 100 grams offers .15 milligrams of zinc. If you're mashing bananas for a smoothie or to stir into oatmeal, you'll get .34 milligrams from 1-cup, which weighs 225 grams. Importance of Zinc While zinc is most notably marketed in supplements for immune health, that's not its only role in your body. More than 100 enzymes rely on zinc in order to function. It is an essential part of growth and cellular division, helps wounds heal properly, processes proteins and also plays a role in your sense of taste and smell. Getting zinc in your daily diet is important because your body doesn't have a way to regulate zinc levels. If you don't get enough zinc, you'll be more prone to illness since your immune system won't function at its best, you won't have an appetite and you'll suffer from severe development issues. Your Recommendation Zinc recommendations vary slightly depending on gender and certain life stages. Adult men require 11 milligrams per day, while women need 9 milligrams on a daily basis, reports the Office of Dietary Supplements. If you're pregnant, you need to get 11 milligrams each day, and if you breast-feed, you'll have to get 12 milligrams throughout the day.
