Can scalp massage block DHT?

This breakthrough topical treatment includes key compounds that block DHT, a hormone associated with male and female pattern hair loss. The treatment also opens ion channels in follicle cells and reduces inflammation of the scalp.

The jury is still out on whether massaging scalps can help prevent hair loss. Despite the numerous claims of benefits and patents for scalp massage devices, there have not been many scientific studies into the matter. One study performed in the 90s examined whether a daily massage with essential oils would promote hair growth in patients with alopecia areata. The study did find a statistically significant improvement for the active group. However, it is important to note that the control group also received a daily massage without essential oils. Additionally, the above study was examining alopecia areata. This is a different condition than androgenetic alopecia, the condition known as male pattern baldness in men. It is possible that scalp massage can help prevent hair loss. Massage certainly does improve blood flow near surface tissue and can help combat stress. However, despite massage being used in medicine for millennia and many claims about the benefits for hair growth, there has yet to be much reliable scientific evidence that it works. Significantly, there are many other treatments for hair loss that are more closely based on scientific evidence and are clinically tested. While there is likely no harm in trying scalp massage, it is probably best not to rely on this method alone to treat a hair loss condition.
